OG Kush
is undoubtedly the most famous strain in the world. High Times magazine stapled in that point, naming it #1 on their ‘Top 21 Greatest Strains Of All Time list’. It hasn’t forever been famous though, in fact it was almost never a strain at all. In the early 90’s, a Floridian grower by the name Matt ‘Bubba’ Berger discovered the Kush phenotype and knew it was something special. Not having a platform to promote this new strain on, Matt traveled to LA to meet up with his friend ‘Josh D’ Del Rosso, an already established person in the cannabis community with many connections. Legend has it that when Matt drove from Florida to LA, he took 5 clones of the Kush along and 4 of them died. Luckily, Josh D. was hand delivered the last surviving plant and knew exactly what to do with it.Through Josh’s networking and the quality of the buds, Kush became so popular that people started calling good weed in general ‘Kush’. The strains name was rebranded as ‘OG Kush’, short for Original Kush to eliminate any confusion with its name. Humboldt County (basically the cannabis capital of CA) eventually got their hands on some seeds and the strain took off worldwide from there. Kush has now been the forefather to numerous award winning strains and will forever go down in history as a strain that not only furthered the overall quality of weed, but also people’s perspectives on quality vs quantity and seeing what was possible with the right genetics. Forever a game changer.
