RawNoCut
RawNoCut is a media company that has been throwing boxing events as a means to advocate and raise awareness around the cannabis industry in Texas and California. Working as a coalition of locally licensed vendors and activists, they travel city to city promoting the medical uses and benefits of cannabis. These events can be important sources of information on local cannabis and laws, which are especially useful for athletes suffering from injuries such as boxers. They also serve as a means of correctly transitioning cannabis from the dark days of governmental opposition and federal scheduling into a modern day medicine with activists educating the public on both the medicinal and social aspects, as well as the disadvantages. “To fully understand and legalize cannabis as a medicine, one must first understand the applications both in a medical and social setting. How people treat, endure and abuse THC can give us a better idea of how to promote the medicine in a cultural space and disintegrate many of the social barriers present”. These events also serve a double purpose because cannabis in some states has been associated with gun violence and criminal activity. RawNoCut is attempting to change that stigma through their “Gloves up guns down” movement. They host fight nights where the community can come out and work their problems out in a peaceful manner. Activists and community leaders will come out and tell stories of drug-related violence and unfortunate events to not only educate, but reinvigorate life in the community through positive change. Gloves up, guns down and joints burning while celebrating the positivity and life cannabis has brought back to athletes, patients and the community as a whole.
